A Note to Our Pet Parents: Staying Healthy During Cold Season

We care deeply about the health and happiness of every dog that visits our hotel and daycare. Recently, a few cases of kennel cough—often called the “common cold” for dogs—have been reported from doggies who join us at daycare. The pups with colds are staying home until they feel better. Much like germs spread in a kindergarten class - a doggie cold can be picked up easily. We want to take a moment to explain what kennel cough is (the common cold for dogs), how to spot it, and what steps you can take to help keep your pup and others healthy.

Kennel cough is a respiratory condition in dogs that’s easy to catch, just like how humans share colds and flu during the winter season. It spreads through droplets in the air, shared spaces, or even on surfaces. Symptoms include a distinctive dry or honking cough, sneezing, nasal discharge, or fatigue.

If your dog shows signs of kennel cough, please notify us and keep them home to rest and recover. A quick check-in with your veterinarian can help determine the best course of care. Most cases are mild and resolve on their own, but it's essential to monitor symptoms closely.

While kennel cough can be picked up anywhere—parks, walks, or other dog-friendly spaces—we are taking extra precautions at our facility by sanitizing thoroughly and ensuring a clean environment. We want to assure you that we are taking every possible precaution to maintain a safe and clean space. Our team is committed to exceeding sanitation standards, including frequent cleaning of shared surfaces, air circulation measures, and sanitizing toys, bowls, and high-touch areas. We encourage everyone to keep us informed of any symptoms or diagnoses so we can continue to provide the safest space possible for our furry guests.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us ensure all our pups stay happy and healthy this season. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to support you and your dog.

Sincerely,

Victoria & The Sit Social Team
